MINUTES OF THE HINGHAM SCHOOL COMMITTEE

 

August 3, 2009

 

Regular Session

 

 

The meeting was called to order by Christine Smith at 6:30 p.m. in the High School Library.  

 

Members Present:         Christine Smith, Linda Hill, Barbara Cook, Caryl Falvey, Esther Healey, Chrisanne Gregoire, Steve Nagle.

 

Central Office Present:  Dorothy Galo, Ellen Keane, Jean Curtis Loud, David Killory.

 

Visitors Present:            Helaine Silva, Marisa Costello, Marielle Thorne.

 

On a motion by Linda Hill and seconded by Esther Healey,

 

            It was

            Voted:              To approve the Minutes of the Regular Session of July 20, 2009.

 

On a motion by Chrisanne Gregoire and seconded by Esther Healey,

 

            It was

            Voted:              To approve the Minutes of the Executive Session of July 20, 2009.

 

Communications.

 

Christine Smith reviewed correspondence regarding wiring of the conference room.

 

New Business.

 

The Committee discussed Special Town Meeting. 

 

On a motion by Chrisanne Gregoire and seconded by Esther Healey,

 

            It was

            Voted:              To approve the School Committee handout for the Special Town Meeting.

 

 

The Committee received notification of the appointment of Kelly Achille as a van driver, effective September 1, 2009.

 

The Committee received notification of the appointment of Michael Burke as a van/bus driver, effective September 1, 2009.

 

The Committee received notification of the appointment of Katie Hartman as head custodian at East School, effective July 27, 2009.   

 

The Committee received notification of the appointment of Laurie Ann Griffiths as a special education teacher at East School, effective August 31, 2009.   

 

The Committee received notification of the appointment of Jennifer Price as a .5 kindergarten teacher at Foster School, effective August 31, 2009. 

 

Budget.

 

David Killory reviewed a proposal to increase the price of school lunch.

 

Subcommittee Reports.

 

Salary & Negotiations:  Linda Hill reported on the first negotiating meeting with the HEA.  Three more meetings have been scheduled.

 

Superintendent’s Report.

 

1)         Update of New Ethics & Open Meeting Guidelines from Michael Long, Superintendents’ Association attorney.

 

On a motion by Chrisanne Gregoire and seconded by Linda Hill,
