MINUTES OF THE HINGHAM SCHOOL COMMITTEE

 

November 12, 2009

 

Regular Session

 

 

The meeting was called to order by Christine Smith at 7:35 p.m. at the School Department Conference Room. 

 

Members Present:        Christine Smith, Barbara Cook, Chrisanne Gregoire, Esther Healey, Steve Nagle.

 

Central Office Present:            Dot Galo, Ellen Keane and David Killory

 

Visitors Present:           Roger Boddie, Ellen McNulty, Carol Falvey, Maryann Shafter, Janet Klaehn-McNulty.

 

 

The Committee heard a summary of the results of the Selectmen’s November 10, 2009 discussion and action on the proposed SOI for Hingham Middle School.

 

Due to the vote of the Hingham Board of Selectmen at their meeting of November 10, 2009 to approve the Hingham Middle School SOI to include only priorities 5 and 7, the Committee discussed whether or not to reconsider its vote taken at their meeting of October 13, 2009 which included priorities 2, 4, 5, and 7. 

 

A discussion ensued including the revisions that would need to be made to the October 13, 2009 SOI to conform with the Selectmen’s vote.  After comments and questions, and

 

On a motion by Esther Healey and seconded by Chrisanne Gregoire,

 

            It was

            Voted:              To approve the revised Hingham Middle School SOI with

 

Priority # 5       replacement, renovation or modernization of school facility systems, such as roofs, windows, boilers, heating and ventilations systems, to increase energy conservation and decrease energy related costs in a school facility; and

 

Priority  #7       replacement of or addition to obsolete buildings in order to provide for a full range of programs consistent with the state and approved local requirements and

 

 

herby further specifically acknowledges that by submitting this Statement of Interest, the Massachusetts School Building Authority in no way guarantees the acceptance or the approval of an application, the awarding of a grant or any other funding commitment from the Massachusetts School Building Authority, or commits the Town of Hingham to filing an application for funding with the Massachusetts School Building Authority.

 

This vote negates the School Committee’s action on the SOI of October 13, 2009.

 

Dot Galo reviewed next steps in the School Department’s planning to deal with the immediate overcrowding situation at Hingham Middle School.
