Message from the Superintendent

Hello Everyone!

During this celebratory time of the year our entire school community focuses  its own attention and that of the students  to giving thanks for all that we have to celebrate and to giving to others among us who need more than they have.  That spirit of giving and service to others takes many forms, and Hingham’s generosity at this time of the year is legendary.  What a wonderful example our community sets for HPS children and teens in that regard.  I thank all of our citizens for efforts that both support the needs of others and also model HPS core values such as service to others and civic responsibility.  Attached to this e-mail is just one of many examples of a worthy project for your consideration.  Check out the SNAP flyer for details.

But let’s not forget that one of the greatest gifts we can give to all students is an inclusive and welcoming school environment.  So starting today,  we are celebrating Inclusive Schools Week (an Initiative of the Inclusive Schools Network).  The Network website offers lots of ideas as to how parents, teachers, and students can help to create an environment where all students feel valued and included in  school life.

30 Ways to Support Inclusion

The busy season ahead offers many opportunities for families to join in the fun and celebrations.  School concerts and other events, performances, and award ceremonies serve to showcase individual and group talents and interests and also provide parents and educators with opportunities to let students know how proud we are of their achievements.

On a separate note,

Watch for the annual posting of weather related protocols later this week.  As always, we appreciate parent support and patience in coping with the woes of winter.  I do understand the special challenges that working parents face around school cancellation or delayed start notifications, especially when factors such as changing forecasts and other circumstances dictate late decisions.  So it’s not too early to think about possible back up plans  for such instances.

Until the next time, please enjoy the spirit of the season.
