The Career Center

Extensive career advising is available from the school counselors.  The Career Center provides students with the most up-to-date resources including:

Computer Lab:  The Career Center is equipped with three IBM computers and one laser jet printer.  High-speed internet access is available at all three computers.  Students are encouraged to use the computers to conduct college searches; research colleges via websites; download the Common Application, college and university applications, financial aid applications, and a wealth of other valuable information.  In addition, students may use the Career Center’s computers to send college applications on-line.  Each computer has several valuable bookmarks available to the students with the click of the mouse.

ExPAN Computer Software Program:  The College Board ExPAN program offers an extensive database of information on careers, colleges, financial aid, and scholarships.  Students are able to research over 1,200 occupations, explore over 2,800 colleges providing current and detailed profiles with direct connection to their web page, and learn about financial aid and scholarships.  This information is located on one comprehensive computer software program that students are able to save under their own password.

CD ROMS, College and Career Videos:  Over 300 CD ROMS and videos on colleges and careers are available for students to view at the career center or to sign them out for use at home.  CD ROMS and college videos allow students to gain interest in a school prior to actually visiting the college or university.

Careers in the Military:  Representatives from the Armed Forces distribute brochures and additional information on opportunities in the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard.  In addition, extensive information on ROTC programs is available.  Students use the Career Center to meet with the Armed Forces representatives.

Local Job Board:  Employers in the community post local job opportunities for students.  Job announcements arrive daily for babysitting, clerical work, yard work, and retail work.  Students of all grades are encouraged to learn of part time employment opportunities.

Reference Material:  Reference materials on colleges, careers, summer programs, post-graduate schools, and financial aid are available for students and parents.  Editions of The Occupational Outlook Handbook, College Board Handbook, Barron's Profiles of American Colleges, Index of Majors Book, Resumes for High School Graduates, college catalogs, college view books, college applications, and much more.
