Timelines note the country an author’s working in, but it helps to have a sense of who else was working at the same time, and any influences they might have on your author. WW Norton Anthology of American Lit At the top of this site are horizontal tabs of the time periods.  Select from To 1800, 1820-1865, 1865-1914, 1914-1945, and Since 1945.  After doing that select from the vertical tabs on the left.  Of particular note may be "Making Connections", and "Authors".
