Are
you ready for to do some detective work? I hope so! I love to create WebQuests and have several just waiting for you
and your child! What’s a WebQuest you ask? Well,
here’s a definition:
A
WebQuest is an inquiry-oriented activity that has students use resources
on the Internet. Creating WebQuests is one of the strategies used by
educators for integrating the Internet with instructional goals.
WebQuests are designed to make the best use of a student's time. A WebQuests should contain the following
parts:
1.
An introduction that sets the stage and provides some background
information.
2.
A task that is doable and interesting.
3.
A set of information sources (links to websites) needed to
complete the task. Because these links are included, the learner is
not left to wander through cyberspace.
4.
A description of the process is broken out into clear steps.
5.
An evaluation rubric is provided as a guideline.
6.
A conclusion that
brings closure to the quest, reminds the learners about what they've
learned, and encourages them to extend the experience.
Given
this new information, I’m inviting you and your child to venture into
cyberspace for a WebQuest.
I think you both might learn something and find it fun!
Quests can take a LONG time. Don't expect your child
to complete it all at once.
Try spacing out the activities over a few days or a week.
Have fun!
